Today I shot Dan Cassaro. The first thing he said on recognition of my camera was “Do you want me to wear something?” It seems to be a common response from people when I go into a shoot. I take a few frames and then wait for the interaction to be less about photography and more about relating. I guess I see my photographs as natural interaction between myself and the people I am attracted to; whether it is physically or mentally. This pressure to define different aspects of my work has been really frustrating. Katy Grannan makes images that show an intense relationship between artist and model, I want my relationships to be less rigid.
